Rocket League Hits 2 Billion Matches Played

Rocket League, the soccer-car mash-up from Psyonix, has managed to cement itself as one of the most popular video games on not only the esports scene, but on the gaming market in general. It has enjoyed a meteoric rise of popularity since releasing back in 2015, and has now reached an incredible milestone of two billion total matches played worldwide.

The game celebrated its second anniversary back in July, where at the time had 33 million players playing the game, averaging at 1.6 million players each day. Not only that, it was also revealed that the majority of players were based on PS4, bringing in 41% of the population, followed by Xbox One with 32% and PC with 27%.

The game has also been nominated recently for ‘Best Esports Game’ at this year’s Game Awards, with the results set to be announced on December 7th. Tomorrow will too mark the release of the velocity crate update, bringing the new ‘The Imperator DT5’ Battle car, along with Engine Audio and six new Decals for players to check out, plus new Goal explosions with ‘Equalizer’ and ‘Hikari P5’ wheels.

Rocket League has recently released on Nintendo Switch too, and is also available on Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4.
