Arc Systems Talks Future Of Guilty Gear Franchise

Fighting games are a very interesting genre when you look at it beyond the surface level. On one hand, it’s a very simple premise, after all, it’s just about characters fighting each other until a winner is determined. However, through the years, fighting games have evolved to where they have their own mythology, as well as some very complicated control schemes. While some go for a very basic approach (like Dragon Ball FighterZ), others prefer the difficulty. This includes the anime fighting game franchise known as Guilty Gear.

Guity Gear to many is one of the “niche” fighting game franchises that only the dedicated can play, not just because the game is hard to master, but also, the story is very anime. If you don’t get my drift, we mean that it’s very hard to follow at times.

Anyway, developer Arc Systems had an interview with Destructoid and was asked about the future of the franchise given the stigma it has.

Guilty Gear

“After releasing Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 it’s clear what we need to improve on. The key is to win over more users because of the complex controls. But if we implement everything the game will no longer be Guilty Gear. It’s hard to balance out all the improvements.”

One thing that Arc Systems highlighted is that the next game in the franchise won’t have as many systems in the battle system. They admitted that Xrd Rev 2 was far too complicated.

Now, another question that was brought up was the possibility of the series coming to Nintendo Switch, to which they replied:

“That’s a really good question. One of the goals for Guilty Gear is achieving high quality graphics. Specifically, on that point, the Nintendo Switch might not be a good match, but that’s not our final conclusion.”

So, it looks like the future is going to be very interesting for Guilty Gear.
