Is Ed Boon Teasing A New Mortal Kombat?

Don’t you just love it when a developer drops a tease that isn’t subtle at all and basically confirms something? Well, that’s exactly what happened with Ed Boon yesterday. Boon is the head of NetherRealm Studios, the team who makes the Injustice and Mortal Kombat series. He was asked by a fan if it would be possible for Injustice 2 to get a fourth DLC Fighter Pack this year, and instead of answering that question, he decided to give a tease for something else.

Long story short, Boon stated on Twitter: “You know what ELSE would be kool…..?”

The “kool” is an obvious reference to Mortal Kombat, which to be fair hasn’t had a game in a few years, it just passed three years since MK10 in fact, so it honestly wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see NetherRealm doing MK11. In fact, based on the fact that Boon responded like he did, we could potentially get a reveal for the game at E3 2018. But that’s just speculation.

Mortal Kombat

In recent months and years, NetherRealm has been working on Injustice 2, which earned many honors after its release, including “Best Fighting Game” by many awards ceremonies. If anything, doing the Injustice series has helped them refine their craft even more, and has helped make Mortal Kombat even better. So, if MK11 is koming, and possibly koming soon, it’ll be interesting to see what advancements are made to make it stand out.

As you might recall, MK10 shot the series forward a few decades, following the children of many classic MK fighters, and bringing in some new blood to tell new stories. They also refined the gameplay and added new tricks like giving each fighter three different fighting styles to choose from before the match.

If a full-on announcement is given soon, we’ll be sure to let you know about it.
