Certain Overwatch Myths Debunked

All gaming communities have myths in them, as players like to think about a lot of things, which leads them to claim things that haven’t actually been confirmed by anyone. Well, there have been rumors flying around the Overwatch forums that are focused on group play in the game and how it affects the skill rating when you lose or when you win. Scott Mercer, a developer over at Blizzard, wanted to make sure that players know that these myths are just that, and that group play does not, in fact, affect your SR any differently than when you play alone.

Right before getting the “Looking for Group” tool that’s coming in 1.25, Scott wanted to debunk some myths about playing with your friends or other people in a group, and how it affects your SR. On their official post he said:

The first and maybe most common misconception I want to correct is the belief that the Competitive Play system decreases your SR gains and increases your SR losses when playing in a group. The simple answer here is that there’s no SR penalty based on your group status. It doesn’t matter if you’re solo, grouped with one other person, or in a full group of six.

Finally, the truth is here. Overwatch players, it doesn’t matter if you’re playing alone or with other people, it does not change the way your SR increases or decreases. It is actually quite nice of Blizzard to come out and say that this is false, as you never know which myths end up being true and which are just fabricated lies.
