Belgium Bans Lootboxes In Overwatch And HotS

It seems like the fight against loot boxes continues, as you can no longer buy them in Overwatch and HotS in Belgium. Players can still earn them in-game, but you can’t buy them anymore.

We understand that loot boxes can be considered a form of gambling. Ok, but if you’re 18 or older, why can’t you gamble? The problem with these loot boxes is that they get out of hand when children get addicted to them. They see shiny stuff, and they want even more shiny stuff. There is no logical explanation as to how a child gets their small hands on a credit card, but they do. Everyone heard about times when a kid uses their dad’s or mom’s credit card and then spends a lot of money on a game. Just don’t let your kids use your card and the problem is solved.

This just limits Belgian players from acquiring cosmetic items faster. If they want to, they should be able to spend their own money on their own game. These European gambling laws which have started affecting games are going way overboard. We are adults, and as such we should be able to spend our money any way we want to.

This doesn’t make any sense to us, and we feel sorry for people from Belgium that play both Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm. It isn’t fair to them, no matter how you put it. Let gamers spend their money on loot boxes if they want to, it’s their money!
