Blizzard Still Aims To Eliminate Toxicity From Overwatch

Overwatch is one of the most popular games out there right now. Since launching early last year, the game has been bought by 35 million+ players, and that’s no doubt going to rise. It’s been praised for its unique characters, intense gameplay, and the updates that keep the game fresh. The game also earned numerous awards, including quite a few Game of the Year awards. Yet, despite all of that, Overwatch is also known as one of the most toxic games out there because of its community.

You see, part of the nature of the game is communicating with teammates, and that’s great! But, when said teammates, or even opponents at times, get hurtful and derogatory in their dialogue, it affects people. There are numerous players who have left the game or won’t even dare play it in the first place, because of actions like this.

Numerous topics have been made on Reddit talking about it. With the most recent one noting how Valve acknowledged Dota 2’s toxic community and took major steps towards ending it and pretty much doing it. Which leaves many wondering, why hasn’t Blizzard?

Well, Blizzard actually responded to that Reddit thread, and made a promise that they are still working hard to end toxicity within the community:

“We do take this very seriously and eliminating toxicity is still a priority for us. I’m sure you’ve all read this post from back in July and we’re still committed as ever as we continue to invest in improving the entire process.” – said community manager Blizz_Griffin.

While it’s good to hear that they’re still wanting to do this, it’s going to be actions that speak louder than words here. The community has voiced many times how they don’t like the current reporting system, and that’s what Blizzard is asking players to use to report toxic behavior.

Will Overwatch make it through this? We’ll just have to wait and see.
