Bungie Details Iron Banner Event in Destiny 2

Bungie has revealed the first Iron Banner event for Destiny 2, with a number of changes to the competition made to for this new sequel. Going forward, according to Bungie, your power levels will no longer determine the outcome, but rather your ability to fight. This is a step in a new direction for the franchise, as the original game gave you a massive boost depending on your Light level. Now, the focus has shifted to leveling the Iron Banner playing field for this entry.

Also, Bungie has altered bounties and ranks found in the first game, and has replaced them completely with Iron Banner engrams. Previously, you would be rewarded better Banner-exclusive gear for playing the Iron Banner events. This method would take many hours of gameplay, with the most it could offer being rank 5 weapons and armor, and it remains to be seen whether or not Destiny 2 will adopt this method.

Iron Banner tokens can be obtained by simply participating in them, though if you win, you’ll be able to garner even more, which are then in turn likely to be turned in to earn engrams. Like with most online games, if you are not bringing your own team, then ultimately you’ll be relying on the luck of the draw with matchmaking, especially when chasing down daily and seasonal milestones.

The first Iron Banner event will begin on October 10th at 2am PT, running through until October 17th and finishing at the same time at 2am PT.
