Valheim just keeps climbing Steam’s charts and it’s showing signs of becoming the most popular game on the platform.
Valheim pulls off the usual survival game elements perfectly
Valheim sold over 2 million copies in just 2 weeks. And its popularity didn’t come from a popular YouTuber or Twitch streamer playing it. This is a case where a title got its fame just by being a good, and incredibly fun game. It’s a survival title with crafting, exploration, fantasy elements, and it’s in Early Access still. Usually, this combination spells doom for a game. Yet, Valheim’s popularity keeps increasing more and more each day. SteamDB shows an all-time peak of 373,167 just 8 minutes ago, and it keeps increasing.
It’s the third most-played game on Steam right now
You know your game is doing well when it takes the third spot on Steam’s most-played list. PUBG, the game on the fourth spot, has been out for 5 years. Valheim overtook its spot in 15 days. The only games with more players are Dota 2, with 524,083 players online right now, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, with 998,647 online at this very moment.
Can Valheim continue gaining popularity, or will it fizzle out?
The question is, will the hot-streak continue and can Valheim become the most popular game on Steam, or will it slowly die down and fizzle out? Judging from what players say about this game and how much they enjoy it mixed with the devs’ love for the game mixed with incredible transparency, I’m guessing Valheim can only go up from here.
But everything is possible. I look forward to picking up this game myself to see how it plays. What about you, have you played it? If you did, what are your thoughts on it? Can it be the next big thing in gaming, or is it just another trend waiting to die out.
