Eidos Montreal To Become More “Online Focused”

In the video game industry, companies have to grow and evolve in order to survive. While it’s ok to make a key franchise over and over again, it’s also wise to make a new franchise and expand your brand, else you’ll fail. Another path may be that you focused on one type of content, but then you realize that there is potential for greatness in other versions of content. This is what apparently has gone through the minds of Eidos Montreal, the team behind the recent Deus Ex titles.

Eidos is a part of Square Enix, and has worked on titles like Deus Ex Human Revolution and Deus Ex Mankind Divided. But as for right now? No one really knows. Yet, on their website, they have made a promise for more online content:

“We are placing an added emphasis on the online experiences in our games, striving to continually provide players with content that is memorable and impactful.”

This is certainly an interesting move, not the least of which is because Eidos Montreal is renown for their singleplayer gameplay that allows players to truly choose their path. In the Deus Ex games, you could be very aggressive, or very stealth, and finish the game without having to do both. So, it makes you wonder what made them shift their focus to the online market. According to their statement, it’s because they want to keep the future in mind:

“Through the inherent interactivity of online play, our universes will have the chance to thrive both now and into the future. To achieve this, we are building the teams and tools capable of supporting our ambitions.”

It does make you wonder what they have in mind, and what will be done with their next title, whatever that may be. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
