The Hyper Light Drifter developers made a smooth transition from 2D to 3D with their latest project titled Solar Ash.
Going from a 2D combat-focused game to a 3D movement-focused game isn’t easy. Yet. Heart Machine decided to go in that direction for their latest project. Just listen to how they described Solar Ash while talking to Rock Paper Shotgun:
“We like to say it’s like a mix of Mario Galaxy, meets Shadow Of The Colossus, meets Jet Set Radio. It’s a very different genre to Hyper Light Drifter,
Ultimately, we wanted this to feel like a fully different game, where the speed and movement controls are a large part of the experience.”
Movement and speed are a major part of Solar Ash. Taking down gigantic bosses while you’re zipping around sounds like a strange gameplay formula, but Heart Machine proved they know how to make insanely engaging and gorgeous games skills with their previous title.
On another note, this game won’t be just boss fights. We’re not sure what more we can do in this colorful title, but they said it’s going to be more than just speedy exploration and boss fights. For now, you can check out the release trailer in all its quirky glory down below:
