The recent overhaul of Mercy has been the center of controversy for a number of reasons in Overwatch, but there is one prominent reason in particular, relating to fellow healer hero Ana.
Ana was first introduced to the Overwatch roster by Blizzard last year, and was at one point a very popular choice among players, given her abilities as both a sniper and as a healer. However, rather infamously, Ana was then subjected to nerfs that have since reduced her to being one of the most unpopular and least chosen characters by players, particularly in Competitive Play.
Given these two ends of the scale between Mercy and Ana, you can see why to Ana mains that the recent changes are unfair. Mercy’s mobility and abilities make it almost a full team effort just to actually kill her, and adding her resurrection technique on top makes her more than a formidable hero to go up against. But comparing her to the likes of Ana showcases not only her overpowered nature, but also how ineffective Ana and other healers are in comparison. Time will tell whether Blizzard will bring the likes of Ana to Mercy’s level, lest they nerf Mercy and make her less fun to play as.
