Sonic Forces Super Sonic DLC Now Free Forever

You think Sega would’ve learned by now what fans want, and what they don’t want. You’d think after the success of previous games like Sonic Generations that fans want pure Sonic gameplay without the gimmicks and most definitely without unnecessary paid DLC. But, Sega either didn’t listen, or didn’t think they would mind. For with Sonic Forces, they decided it would be a good idea to release a Super Sonic DLC for free in January…and then $2 after that “free trial” was over. Needless to say, fans weren’t happy.

After all, why should they pay $2 for DLC that A) they honestly didn’t need. And B) should’ve been a part of the game anyway given Super Sonic’s importance to the lore? So, yeah, fans weren’t happy, and Sega apparently heard them, for on Twitter, they stated this:

“More good news: we’ve updated the plan for Super Sonic DLC in Sonic Forces! Starting today, the Super Sonic DLC will be free – forever.”

Sonic Forces

This is a good thing, for it means that both the classic and modern version of Super Sonic are available to everyone who has Sonic Forces, no strings attached. Which is honestly how it should’ve been from the start.

The response on Twitter has been mixed at best, for while fans are more than happy to get the DLC for free, as noted above, they felt it should never have been a question that it be free.

What’s more, this doesn’t actually fix the problems that Sonic Forces has. It’s still another case of a Sonic game missing out on the potential it had when it was announced. The game had a lot of elements that had fans excited: All the Sonic villains working together, Eggman having already won at the beginning of the game, character creation, etc. But, in the end, it just didn’t live up to what it could’ve been.
