Dragon Quest X To Possibly Get “Offline” Version?

If gaming has taught us anything, it’s that just because one country likes one set of video games, doesn’t mean the others don’t. In Japan, there are entire subgenres of gaming that the West never gets because they don’t play them with the same love that the Japanese do. And then, there are franchises that do decently in the West, but boom in Japan. Dragon Quest is a great example of this, and though Dragon Quest X did come to the West on 3DS, another version may be in the works.

You see, Dragon Quest X was a full-on online title in the Dragon Quest world. As such, it needed a strong online presence, which is why it eventually was brought to the West on a 3DS, but apparently…it didn’t do that well. For during an interview, Executive Producer Yuu Miyake said:

“Dragon Quest X hasn’t released overseas. The 3DS games weren’t that popular overseas, and some folks jumped from Dragon Quest VIII all the way to Dragon Quest XI.

Dragon Quest X has plenty of rich stories, and I want to make something to share it with others, including those overseas.”

So what is the solution to the problem? Well, the team is up for possibly doing an offline version of the game. This comes from producer Yosuke Saito who said:

“We talk about an offline version here and there, but I don’t think it’s impossible. It’d be great if we could introduce it to customers.”

An offline version could help things immensely, and help gamers see Dragon Quest X as something more than another online title. Dragon Quest XI was a “true” RPG and it seems to be doing ok in the West, so maybe having X on a more basic level, and maybe coming to the Nintendo Switch, could boost things big time.
