Resident Evil 2 Remake Gets ESRB Rating

2019 is going to be a major year for gaming no matter what “side” of the equation you are on. And not unlike in 2018, it’s going to start off with a bang. For in the course of January 2019, several major titles are coming out to platforms, and for horror fans, you have a chance to play Resident Evil 2 Remake from Capcom. Which takes the classic Resident Evil 2 title, gives it a much-needed makeover, adds new elements, and even tightens up the story a bit.

Fans have been asking for this for a while, and early impressions seem to indicate that Capcom drilled it out of the park. But, there’s also the official ESRB rating, which warns of the things you’d expect from a Resident Evil title.

“This is a survival-horror game in which players assume the roles of a policeman and/or a college student battling a zombie outbreak in the fictional Raccoon City. From a third-person perspective, players explore environments and use pistols, shotguns, tasers, explosives, and flamethrowers to kill mutant creatures and zombies. Combat is highlighted by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and large blood-splatter effects. Cutscenes also depict instances of intense violence and gore: a character’s throat ripped out by a mutant’s teeth; a man’s body cut in half, leaving entrails dangling from his torso; a man’s head crushed by a zombie’s hands. Some areas also depict mutilated corpses/zombies with exposed organs and viscera. The words “f**k” and “sh*t” are heard in the dialogue.”

There is one thing though that might distress you. And that’s that the ESRB also noted that Resident Evil 2 Remake will have microtransactions! Unfortunately, they didn’t go into details, but it could be nothing more than cosmetic changes, or, it could be something more substantial. We’ll have to wait and see.

The game arrives on January 25th.
