Platinum Games Leads Talk Bayonetta 3 And New Indie Title

Platinum Games is one of the most respected video game developers in the world today. They’re known for their ability to great fast-paced gameplay, but also, build incredible worlds and tell deep stories. It’s because of this that they’re known for titles like Nier: Automata, Vanquish, Metal Gear: ReVengeance, and the Bayonetta titles. And all eyes are on them for making Bayonetta 3 another hit, but, according to them, that’s not the only thing they’re working on. They’re apparently working on an indie-style title as well.

At a live show, Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya of Platinum Games talked with IGN and teased what this new indie game was:

“It’s not a huge project, but about as Kamiya as you can imagine. We are trying to make this product a reality, so if any sponsors are listening, feel free to comment!” Inaba joked.

Platinum has a very interesting system within itself, anyone on staff can pitch a game idea. But ironically, of the last round, Hideki’s was the one that shined the most.

Nier: Automata

Kamiya was thrilled that he got selected, but admitted that he altered the pitch to make it more viable:

“Actually, what surprised me the most…” Kamiya went on. “I proposed the idea in two different ways; one being exactly how I would want it to be, and another version that had some adjustments to make it more commercially viable. Inaba chose the original idea without the adjustments.”

As for Bayonetta 3, the two defined it as the “culmination of Platinum’s” history, and they know that expectations are higher than ever for the title, so they are working hard to deliver. But, they also acknowledge that it’s because of titles like Bayonetta, Nier, Metal Gear, and others that they’re allowed to create these new IP titles that they’re excited about. They really want that free to make their own stuff, so, they’re working hard to succeed so that they can do it more.
