Blizzard Updates Fans On Overwatch Potential For Switch

Overwatch is a hit in every sense of the word. The game is celebrating its two-year anniversary right now, and players on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 are enjoying all the new content, maps, skins, and characters that the game has to offer. However, there is one thing that many do want from the game, and it’s not any of those things. Put simply, they would love to see the hit title come to the newest hit console…the Nintendo Switch.

Now, while Blizzard has never denied the possibility of this happening, they have been rather coy about whether it actually will happen. And now, that continues via Senior Game Producer Matthew Hawley, who noted this to Gamespot:

“I think it is one of those things that we constantly evaluate. Where technology is going; where the industry is going,” he said. “There are challenges in running on the platforms that we’re not already on, otherwise we would probably already be on some of those other platforms. We’ll see where things go. Certainly, there is a huge number of people out there who have Nintendo Switch and mobile phones, but right now, the core development team is focused on supporting the live game.”

By “live game”, he no doubt means that they wish to focus on the PC, Xbox One, and PS4 versions. last year, Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan noted that one of the reasons it would be unlikely that the Switch version of the game would happen is because it would be yet another version for them to work on, up, build content for, and more, and that’s a lot of work.

Now, this doesn’t mean that the game port is completely shut down, but it is starting to lean towards that direction. But, if that changes again, we’ll let you know.
