Chrono Trigger On PC Getting Fixed By Modders

If you’ve ever wondered what gets under the skin of video gamers, it’s very simple. They hate being cheated, they hate paying too much for something, and they hate when developers don’t put their all into a video game. That last one is very poignant given what Square Enix just did last week on Steam. For they put the beloved RPG classic Chrono Trigger on the service, which was a good thing! Until players realized that they put the much maligned iOS version of the game on it, which sent fans into an uproar.

Why? Well, unlike the original SNES version, or the lauded DS version, the iOS doesn’t look as good, play as good, and it has many other issues that made it a very bad port. And now, that bad port is on Steam, and it doesn’t look like Square Enix is going to fix it. So…the gamers will.

As reported by PC Gamer, legendary modder Jed Lang is stepping up to fix what Square Enix broke.

Chrono Trigger

“A couple of my trusted Twitter contacts actually tagged me in some of their conversations/articles, since they remembered what I did for FFVI,” Lang told PC Gamer. “I bought the game on Steam and immediately dove into solving some of the problems.”

That’s right, Square Enix has a history of bringing bad ports of their RPGs to Steam, and Lang helped make Final Fantasy VI playable again, and he’s hoping to do that here too.

To him, the main issue is the graphics. They don’t look right, they don’t scale right, the colors are off, it’s a mess, but he feels he can fix it. However, there are things he admits will take some time, like fixing the UI and certain scaling issues.

If he does get the game fixed, he’ll be a hero all over again, and maybe he’ll teach Square Enix a thing or two in the process.
