Crystal Dynamics Avengers Title Still in Development

Video games based on comic book titles haven’t always been the greatest things in the world. For every Spider-Man PS4 title, or the Arkham franchise, or even the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games, there have been many other duds. And when it comes down to some of the big “team-up” games, the only ones that really ever worked were action-RPGs like Ultimate Alliance and…that’s about it. So when Square Enix announced they were doing an Avengers title? That got a lot of people interested.

The game was teased years ago, and no real footage was shown. Instead, they showed some of the iconic items of the characters like Iron Man’s armor, Bruce Banner’s glasses, Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, and Captain America’s shield. But ever since then, outside of a few spoken word teases, nothing has been shown of the game. And that’s left many wondering whether the game was still coming out at all.

The Creative Director for the game has gone on to Twitter to talk about the game, and states that yes, it’s still being made:

Thanks everyone for all of your interest in The Avengers Project. We’re hard at work on this very ambitious game, and are excited to share more when the time is right.#reassemble @CrystalDynamics

So at the very least, they are still working on it, and have plans to release it, which is more news than we had a few days ago. Still, you have to wonder just how far into this they are, and what is causing the game to take so long to make.

The biggest notion may be that of them focusing on the graphics to make sure that it’s top tier. After all, Crystal Dynamics is the team who have made the last three Tomb Raider titles, and they know how to make games look good. Another idea is that they’re focusing hard to make sure the gameplay feels accurate to the Avengers characters.

We’ll have to wait and see what comes from all this.
