Prey Multiplayer Mode Not Hitting With Fans

In the gaming world that we live in, there is a “belief” that every single game out there needs to have a multiplayer mode of some sort. That they need to have a way of allowing players to play with one another, even if the game itself isn’t exactly built for it. When Prey was released, it was a fulfilling of a promise that started a long time ago, albeit in a different way. And recently, it got its own multiplayer mode in the form of Typhon Hunter.

In this mode, one player would be the story’s protagonist Morgan Yu. Then, the other players would be Mimics (the game’s enemies). And the two forces would do battle. While this sounds like a great idea, many Prey players went onto Twitter to voice their displeasure with the title.

Does anyone know whether @PreyGame Typhoon Hunter will receive more future updates or if this is basically its finished state? The premise and gameplay are there, in my opinion, it’s just there are issues and mechanics that could be improved.

Many joined in and talked about how there were all kinds of issues with the multiplayer. And while it wasn’t “unplayable”, it most certainly wasn’t what was promised, or even hoped for. While some have tried to defend Arkane, others have taken a more logical approach to why it’s ok to criticize:

You could obviously argue this was a free expansion, and that Arkane owed us nothing. My counter argument would be that, while it was released later, Typhon Hunter was marketed to us as a selling point of Mooncrash. It’s not like you got this for owning Prey, this was marketed as a part of Mooncrash; a thing you paid extra for on top of what you paid for the base game. In some way, part of what we paid for Mooncrash was paying for this gamemode. As a result of that, I personally expected a bit more.
