The Devil May Cry series is a franchise very beloved by its fanbase, but it’s also one that has had its controversial entries. Still, many consider the first and third games not just the best in the series, but some of the best games ever made. For while there is a story and characters and stuff like that, the gameplay is the real selling point. It’s fast, frenetic, and is full of life and customization. So, it should be a surprise that someone wants the original game remade.
That “someone” is none other than Hideki Kamiya, head of Platinum games. But if you didn’t know, he was actually the director of the original Devil May Cry title (the one he wants to remake.) Anywho, he went to Twitter to make some very interesting proposals:
“If we remake the 1st DMC, we’re confident about making it the most amazing hack & slash ever. How do you like it, Capcom?”
He’s been talking about Devil May Cry a lot this year actually, and so it’s not surprising he’d offer Platinum Games to Capcom in order to bring the franchise back.
The series could use it, the reboot that came out sold well enough, but many felt the changes to the look of Dante, among other things, really killed the franchise. As such, many have been latching onto hopes of Devil May Cry 5 (which has been rumored for quite some time) as a true return to the franchise. But, if Kamiya gets his hands on a remake of the original (with some improvements, obviously), that might help the franchise as well.
The ball is obviously in Capcom’s court now. If they’re not making the true fifth entry, then they should at least consider the offer. They can’t make things any worse than they are right now for the franchise.
