The roster for Mortal Kombat 11 continues to grow nearly every single week. And the team at NetherRealm Studios continues to promise that each reveal will be something special, as well as fill out the roster with fan-favorites and some big surprises. Ed Boon teased recently another character, and then it was revealed that a new Kombat Kast would be put out today. But, before that, a new trailer dropped confirming that the one and only Johnny Cage would be in the game.
If you don’t know, Johnny Cage is one of the pure human characters in the Mortal Kombat universe. He was a Hollywood action star, but one that got called “fake” because his moves were “too good”, when in fact, he was just that darn good. Eventually, he joined the Mortal Kombat tournament to fight for EarthRealm, married (then divorced) Sonya Blade, and had a daughter with her in the form of Cassie Cage (seen in Mortal Kombat X).
As for Mortal Kombat 11, Johnny Cage uses a lot of classic moves as well as references to Mortal Kombat 9 via his energy powers. Of course, his backbone moveset is him going full-blown martial artist on them. Again, Johnny is one of the best in the business. But, he is also able to shoot energy projectiles, power up his fists, throw his trademark shades at foes, use a camera flash (Frank West should sue), and even call in a “stunt double” to help him out.
Finally, his finishing move is him being on a “movie set” and trying to fatally uppercut a guy. It’s hilarious, and it’s exactly something that Johnny Cage would do.
Anyway, this is another member of the roster, and another character that would be defined as “fan-favorite”, making many wonder if the Kombat Kast later today will reveal another character. Or if not, when the next one will be as we draw ever close to the April 23th release date for the game.
