League of Legends Removes Gold Penalty

One of the beautiful things about League of Legends is that because you play it in teams, and because there are so many different champions in the game itself, there are a ton of strategies that can be implemented to win the day. However, those strategies are very highly monitored by Riot Games, the developer. So, if they feel that one is getting too strong, or if one feels like cheating, they’ll intervene. Which they did recently, and now, they’re removing their ruling.

Long story short, players started to funnel gold in the jungle level, and Riot Games took action by putting a penalty on items so that they couldn’t do that. But now, they’re removing the penalty.

“Owning Hunter’s Machete, Hunter’s Talisman, or an un-upgraded Stalker’s Blade or Skirmisher’s Sabre no longer reduces gold granted by lane minions if you have the highest minion kill score on your team,” Riot Games’ patch notes said.

But that begs the question, why the change of heart? Well it’s not so much player input as it was their own machinations apparently:

“Other preseason changes increase the risks (farm bounties) and tradeoffs (turret plating) of the gold funneling strategy that originally caused us to introduce the Monster Hunter penalty, so we don’t need it anymore,” Riot Games said.

Here’s how the gameplay is now affected:

“If, since their last death, a champion has earned 250 more gold from minions and monsters than the enemy team’s average during that time, their bounty increases by 50 gold, plus another 50 gold for each additional 150 gold their advantage grows by thereafter,” the patch notes explained.

As they said, the penalty is no longer required. And now you can continue your strategies like you wanted to more than likely. No doubt Riot Games will continue to add and subtract in order to make League of Legends perfect.
