Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite Won’t Be On Capcom Pro Tour

It’s a funny thing, irony. When it happens, it’s almost disbelief, and the circumstances surrounding it are basically burned into your mind because you know that it’s important to know. Irony seems to be the life song of Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite. For this was the latest title in a much-beloved franchise that tried very hard to be special, and failed on many accounts. And because of those failures, and low sales, it’s being denied as a premier fighting title by many tournaments.

Earlier this week, the lineup for EVO 2018 was announced. It featured many big name fighting titles, several of which launched last year, and a few that launched (or will be launched) this year. However, Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite did not make that list, and the internet went nuts. Not with rage per se, but rather, with irony. Because they knew why. However, that’s not the worst of it. The upcoming Capcom Pro Tour will now apparently not feature the game as well. And instead, will focus solely on Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.

Marvel

This is truly where the irony comes in, for many who have played Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite knows that the literal gameplay of the title isn’t bad. In fact, some call it the most refined gameplay the franchise has ever had. The addition of the Infinity Stones changes things up in a good way, and it’s a welcome addition to things. And yet, despite these praises, it’s not in either tournament. Why?

Well, it’s because of fan perception. Capcom made some big mistakes when developing the game. Stiff character models, key exclusions in the roster (X-Men, Fantastic Four characters), and a very underwhelming storyline all led to the game having no serious hype by the time release came around. And if there’s no buzz for a title, it won’t be featured at events.
