Mortal Kombat 11 Team Intentionally Toned Down The Visual Nature Of Female Fighter Outfits

Certain fighting game series don’t have the best reputation when it comes to how certain things look. Especially when it comes to the female fighters. There are many legendary fighting game series that have their female fighters in various degrees of revealing clothing. From Mai Shiranui to Cammie White, there are plenty of female fighters that are meant to be eye candy alone. Mortal Kombat started out that way too, but as you’ll see in Mortal Kombat 11, they’ve come a long way.

Art Director for Mortal Kombat 11, Steve Beran, talked with Polygon about this and noted that when it comes to fighting game, you’re going to be wearing a lot of clothing:

“Our character lead, Brendan George, has been a breath of fresh air of just introducing new ideas,” said Beran. “Our design is just getting more mature and respectful. You’re not going to wear a bikini to a fight. You’re not going to be showing so much skin. I think it’s just what the game is about: You’re going in to fight for your life, and you’re not going to be wearing such scantily clad items.”

He’s got a point, and that’s why many have actually applauded the new looks of characters like Skarlet, Sonja Blade and Cassie Cage, Kitana, and others that have joined the fray so far in the game. And though some gamers might be sad at the loss of “bathing suit fighters”, the Mortal Kombat team stands by their decision:

“I’m sure that will disappoint some fans,” said Beran. “We don’t have bathing suit fighters, and I think that’s fine. If people are disappointed, I don’t regret making that change by any means.”

We’re now less than a month away from the release of the game. And the roster is still being filled out. So who knows what other epic female fighter will join the game.

Nice going with the projection there.
That’s just your backwards and sexist views of women who don’t dress ” modestly enough ” for you…
I don’t see you saying that about the male characters running around in revealing outfits, so why are the female characters being judged like this?…
Believe it or not, but even characters like Ivy in Soul Calibur have actual personalities and stories.
Ivy in particular probably has one of the most involved and important ones.
