Super Smash Bros Ultimate Direct Reveals Simon Belmont, King K. Rool and More

The announcement of a Super Smash Bros Ultimate focused Nintendo Direct took everyone by surprise, and when it arrived this morning, gamers were very interested in who would be shown, what would be revealed, and more. Sure enough, Nintendo brought their A-game and dropped numerous bombshells on the title, including five new playable characters all told.

The Direct started off with an absolutely stunning trailer which revealed that the legendary Simon Belmont is going to be joining the series. The Castlevania star has been a highly-requested character for some time now, and he’s finally getting his done. Furthermore, he’s getting an Echo variation with Richter Belmont, Speaking of Echo characters, both Dark Samus from Metroid Prime 2 & 3 alongside Chrom from Fire Emblem Awakening are in the game as well. Masahiro Sakurai noted that in the character select screen, you can have Echo characters be their own slot, or, you can stack them in order to keep the screen contained.

Other big announcements included new stages like New Donk City, and one that’s coming from Monster Hunter! All told, with the variations of Final Destination and Omega Stages, there are over 300 stages in the game. A truly astounding number.

Moving onto Assist Trophies, a lot of big name characters are getting the summoning queue. Including Knuckles from Sonic The Hedgehog, Krystal from Star Fox, Shovel Knight, Zero from Mega Man, Alucard from Castlevania and even Rathalos from Monster Hunter!

Not stopping there, Nintendo also focused on some of the returning and classic game modes that you can expect. Classic Mode will return, as will Tournament mode, which can feature up to 32 players! There’s even going to be a 3v3 and 5v5 mode you can play by yourself or with players!

And to wrap it all up? The anticipated arrival of King K. Rool as a playable character! Super Smash Bros Ultimate is aiming to truly be the ultimate when it arrives on Nintendo Switch December 7th.
