World Of Warcraft Dev Explains Path From Legion To Battle For Azeroth

World Of Warcraft is in an interesting place of transition. On one hand, Blizzard is making servers that’ll take the game back (content wise) to its earliest days, allowing players to relive the wonder of the launch of the very popular MMORPG. But, for those who still enjoy the present of the game, and it’s future, the title will be getting an expansion soon in the form of Battle For Azeroth. Which will put the forces of The Alliance and The Horde against each other once more.

But, before that can happen, a war needs to be settled between the two factions and the force they’ve teamed up against: The Burning Legion. Legion is still going on right now, and it needs to be resolved before Battle For Azeroth can happen. So, how will that happen? Well, at BlizzCon 2017 (where the expansion was announced), senior game designer Jeremy Feasel and executive producer J. Allen Brack talked to Venture Beat about the transition that will happen.

Feasel specifically noted that Legion intentionally had a “B storyline” that focused on the tension between The Alliance and The Horde growing despite them working together:

“Everything from the beginning expansion and the supposed betrayal of the Alliance by Sylvanas and her forces, the death of both of the heads of the factions, the Warden Towers, where you were fighting members of the other faction — that’s always been an underlying kindling that’s been going on during the course of Legion.”

But, they also noted that there’s still plenty of content left to do in Legion before the next expansion comes:

“We have Antorus coming. You’re going to take it to the World-soul. You’re going to get to fight with the Pantheon behind you. That’s crazy. We’ve never done anything like that before.”

So, it looks like World of Warcraft players have a lot to look forward to for some time.
