Xbox One Has Sold 40 Million Units

No matter how well a video game may do sales wise, it doesn’t mean as much if the console isn’t doing that well in terms of its own sales. For the Xbox One, it’s had a lot of difficulties since the start of its run a couple years ago, and it’s not in the best position in the current console battle. However, its sales are still rather impressive, for according to VGChartz, the system has officially sold 40 million units total.

Now, to be clear, it’s likely that this is a combined total between the regular Xbox One, the One S, and the One X, as Microsoft has been trying to make the console “more accessible” to gamers in this particular generation.

Another interesting fact though is how split up the sales numbers are. The United States currently has 55% of all the Xbox One’s, Europe has above 25%, and Japan doesn’t even own 1% of the One consoles. Which goes to show how Japan views the platform and its games.

So, what are the best-selling games on the console? Well, it’s an interesting list, check it out:

  1. Grand Theft Auto V (8.31 million units)
  2. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (7.32 million units)
  3. Call of Duty: WWII (6.17 million units)
  4. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (5.22 million units)
  5. Battlefield 1 (5.12 million units)
  6. Fallout 4 (4.95 million units)
  7. Halo 5: Guardians (4.89 million units)
  8. Minecraft (4.77 million units)
  9. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (4.74 million units)
  10. Star Wars: Battlefront 2015 (4.14 million units)

That’s some nice diversity right there. What’s surprising to me personally is that there’s only one Halo game on the list. But that’s neither here nor there I guess.

The only real problem with this milestone is that the One is doing literally half of the business that the Xbox 360 had, which sold well over 80 million units in its prime. The One won’t have that, or likely get even close to it.
