Ed Boon Talks Mortal Kombat 11 Story

The legend of Mortal Kombat is one that goes beyond the 11 main games (and numerous spinoffs) that have graced the various consoles in history. This is a game that is unapologetic when it comes to the overwhelming brutality it offers gamers. And throughout the series, it’s grown more and  more impressive as the team continues to expand its power and reach. And now, with Mortal Kombat 11, they’re going even deeper into not only the fighting aspects, but the story as well.

During an interview with the PlayStation Blog, Mortal Kombat 11 co-creator Ed Boon noted how the storyline was one that would encompass all of the main Mortal Kombat history.

“We’re taking all the events of MK1, MK2, and MK3, and folding them on top of the current timeline,” Boon continues. “We have time quakes, characters meeting their former selves…[for example], young Liu Kang meeting revenant Liu Kang. It’s so cool.”

He also talked a bit about Kronika, who is the “big bad” for the game. Apparently, she has not only been a part of the universe from the beginning, but she has been working her own schemes, and now that Raiden is messing up the balance and the timeline (again), she’s getting involved. Boon even refers to her as the “boss of bosses”.

But that wasn’t the only news dropped by the team behind the game. For they also unveiled that Kano is making his return to the Mortal Kombat universe in 11. Kano is one of the most popular villains of the game because of his role in not just the series, but the first live-action movie. And many fans have noted that he very closely resembles the live-action version of the character.

All will be revealed when the game releases on April 23rd.
