The Nintendo Switch Has Sold Almost 20 Million Units

Since its launch, the Nintendo Switch has easily been one of, it not the, hottest consoles on the market. And many agree that the system is only limited by the games it puts out and the number of hardware units they’re able to produce. At the end of the Q4 2017 quarter, Nintendo posted impressive numbers with both console and software sales. And now, with another three months past, another report has come out, and it reveals some very interesting figures.

First and foremost, the Nintendo Switch is almost to 20 Million units sold. It’s currently at 19.67. Now, while that is impressive, there is a catch to this. For in March, the Switch sales were at 17.79. Which means, that in the months of April, May, and June, they didn’t sell a combined two million units. Many will likely attribute this to the fact that during those months there was only “big name game” that was exclusive to Switch, and that was Mario Tennis Aces. It also doesn’t paint a good picture when it comes to their goal of trying to sell 20 million units within this fiscal year.

In terms of software, there was a much bigger boost, as software for the Switch is now at 86.93 million units sold. And there are two new entries into the “million sellers” for the Switch in terms of 1st party games:

  1. Super Mario Odyssey – 11.17 million units
  2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 10.35 million units
  3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 9.32 million units
  4. Splatoon 2 – 6.76 million units
  5. 1-2 Switch – 2.45 million units
  6. Arms – 2.01 million units
  7. Kirby Star Allies – 1.89 million units
  8. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – 1.42 million units
  9. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – 1.40 million units
  10. Mario Tennis Aces – 1.38 million units

This next quarter (July August and September) is going to be crucial for the Switch, as they only have ports and 3rd party titles lined up right now, and they’re going to need good sales in order to keep momentum going for the Holiday season.
